Golf History
September 6th, 2008 by derp678085Golf history - Nobody really knows when the golf sport was first played. The first golf courses were built around the 11 century in Holland, so probably holiday wins the claim to be the home of the golf sport, however try telling that to a Scotsman. THERE ARE MANY ASPECTS OF THE SPORT GOLF THAT WERE PLAYED LONG BEFORE A GOLF COURSE WAS BUILT. In Egypt the sport or at least a similar sport with a ball and club was played nearly 300 years before Christ us. I dont know if you consider that the origins of the a golf sport or like in Ireland (Curling) its a different sport. The Chinese also played a club game from village to village shortly after Christ, but both of these examples there was no green or golf course. There the first golf clubs as we know them were definitely built in the near from Amsterdam. In the 13 Century there was a great deal of trade between Holland and Scotland, Especially the East coast of Scotland and it was now that golf first came to Scotland.
The golf sport now began to become increasingly popular and many golf courses were know built, so much so that in the 15 Century there was a Royal decree banning golf on Sunday so that Archery could be practised obviously necessary for the defence of the country.
Even so with such popularity the golf sport did not take it roots in England until about the 18 Century, and almost immediately became amazingly popular so much so that the Englanders, then took the sport every where in the world that the British Empire was.
